It is easy to get caught up in wanting your move to go by fast. Remember that organizing ahead will make your life easier later.
1 – Label your moving boxes with detail- what is inside and for which room. This ensures that you and your movers will know exactly where to put them.
2 – Prepare an overnight bag to keep in your closet that you can go back to throughout the move with your go-to items. (Pyjamas, change of clothes for the following day, toothbrushes, cosmetics, medication, toilette paper, wipes, towels, phone chargers.)
3 – Kitchen: Bring biodegradable plates, forks, cups and napkins to limit messes, and to keep things easy. Remember: If your new home didn’t come with appliances, make sure you do not plug in your fridge right away. Allow the fridge to stabilize for 24 hours.
4 – Pets: If you have any pets, ask a loved one to take care of them for the day, to ensure they don’t get trampled by accident, or get confused amongst all the movers and guests.
5 – Call your new municipality to figure out which days the garbage and recycling pass, so you can organize what to put out and when. Don’t forget to pack ample garbage and recycling bags.
6 – Stay fueled: Most importantly, pack a cooler with water bottles, snacks, and your milk of choice for cereal and coffees.
What are your real estate goals for the season? Whether you have questions about your home or if you’d like to discuss your next move, I look forward to hearing from you.
